Scientific Editorial Office Specialist

If you have solid experience of scientific editing and proofreading and demonstrable line management experience, we have a fabulous new opportunity to join an esteemed London-based membership organisation, dedicated to advancing their leading journal publishing through high-quality research and education. If you have an excellent biological or biomedical degree and a passion for scientific editing, this new role could be a great fit for your experience. Experience of technical editing of manuscripts is desirable however full training will be provided. The organisation is looking to recruit an experienced Editorial Coordinator to support their mission, by ensuring the excellence of their journal. Reporting to the Managing Editor, and collaborating closely with the journal team, this role will support the development of Journal strategy, aligning closely with organisational objectives and KPI's.

Key responsibilities of this role will involve:

  • Technical editing of manuscripts, ensuring consistency, scientific accuracy and compliance with Journal policy, and providing linguistic improvement as required
  • Copyediting selected articles to house style
  • Monitoring and improving key editorial processes, including manuscript peer-review and production
  • Checking revised proofs and making essential corrections as necessary
  • Monitoring production workflow
  • Acting as the main contact for Editorial Office
  • Line manage Editorial Assistants and provide guidance, training and direction
  • Triage and assign manuscripts to technical editors or copyeditors

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a biological or biomedical sciences subject and will have proven experience in scientific publishing, or an editorial office for scientific or academic journals, with a proven track record in editing and proof-reading science-related materials. You should have line management experience, and the ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines. Excellent written English and strong problem-solving skills are a must for this role as are strong IT skills and the ability to analyse and report on data activities.
