Role: Assistant Head of School (with SENDCO responsibilities)

Location: Cranbourne, Dorset

Salary: £47,185 to £50,807 (Teacher Pay Scale L1-L4)

Hours: 40 hours per week

We are actively seeking a passionate Assistant Head of School for a permanent position within a large, independent specialist school located in Cranborne, Dorset.

The school is a large specialist school that provides specialist teaching and learning for pupils aged 11-16 years old with social emotional and mental health needs. Pupils are helped to make progress to realise their potential and ambitions, taking steps towards making healthy choices and independence. With access to modern, well-equipped classrooms, as well as vocational areas including a digital studio, science lab and art and design base. The school has extensive grounds including horticulture learning areas with large glasshouses, as well as motor vehicle workshops, an animal care unit and excellent sports facilities.

As the Assistant Head (with SENDCO responsibilities), you will work in close partnership with and support the Principal and Head of School in the effective day-to-day management of the school and close community. This will include recruitment, developing school specific policies and procedures, leading staff meetings, arranging cover for absent staff and hosting/organizing school events.

You will also:

- Support CPD for classroom-based staff ensuring needs are identified

- Responsible for collating evidence for specific sections of the schools self-assessment reports

- Working with Senior Leadership to review school improvement plans, attendance and quality of provision

- Responsible for raising standards in Teaching and Learning

- Ensure that learning is the centre of strategic planning

For this role, you will have/ will be:

- A recognised teacher training certificate (Cert Ed/ PGCE/ QTS/ QTLS / Diploma in Teaching (essential)

- National award for special educational needs co-ordinator (NASENCO) or within 18months of starting the post (desirable)

- Accredited training in specific areas of special education (e.g Autism, Dyslexia, etc)

- Management/Leadership Qualification (Desired)

- Able to complete application upon submission for interview

- Proven track record of excellence

- Experience holding responsibility for and turning policy into effective practice

- Effective team management

- Successful management of complex scenarios and conflict resolution
