Position Overview: The Professional Development Manager will play a crucial role in shaping the careers of their legal professionals. This position is ideal for a former lawyer with a passion for learning and development, who understands the unique challenges and opportunities within a top-tier law firm. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive professional development programs that support the growth and success of their lawyers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage professional development programs tailored to the needs of our lawyers, including continuing legal education, leadership training, and skill-building workshops.
  • Conduct regular evaluations and assessments to identify training needs and measure the effectiveness of development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with practice group leaders and partners to create customized development plans for individual lawyers.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to lawyers at various stages of their careers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in legal education and professional development.
  • Oversee the administration of continuing legal education compliance and reporting.
  • Organize and coordinate internal and external training events, seminars, and conferences.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external training providers and professional development organizations.

Qualifications:

  • A law degree and prior experience practicing law in a US law firm is required.
  • Proven experience in learning and development, preferably within a legal or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of the legal profession and the specific developmental needs of lawyers.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective training programs and evaluations.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
