Package: £60,000 to £87,500 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

The Role

We are looking for talented individuals with experience in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams from either a project delivery or asset management to join our Capital Engineering Services team.

The Capital Engineering Services team undertakes engineering assessment and design work in support of several key portfolios:

  • Nuclear Risk Management - ensuring that the engineering assets supporting our safety cases are suitable and sufficient to protect our people and the public.
  • Design assessment of existing assets and identification of areas for improvement.
  • Engineering design for new assets and infrastructure, or for modification of existing installations.

As the Principal Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing, guiding and supporting technical staff assigned to your area through our matrix management system. Oversight and support of supplier deliverables will form a key part of your remit.

Key responsibilities

  • Task manage and support the Engineering Managers and Engineers within team.
  • Lead delivery of engineering and design tasks within assigned area.
  • Provide guidance on technical matters to other disciplines such as safety specialists, facility managers and project managers.
  • Ensuring that the requirements are correct and adequate.
  • Ensuring that the design intent and configured baseline are maintained throughout the facility lifecycle.
  • Chair technical design reviews as Delegated Design Authority (if appointed).

What skills and qualifications are needed?

  • An appropriate qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, BEng or MEng equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering recognition as a Member, preferably registered as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council.
  • An excellent understanding of Engineering management, through the full life cycle of Design, Construction, Commissioning and Handover.
  • A good understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSAWA), Construction Design Management (CDM), risk assessments.
  • Experience of Safety Cases or working in a highly regulated (e.g. Nuclear, Pharmaceutical, Oil and Gas) industry would be beneficial
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influence skills.
