Process Optimisation Engineer

Location: Doncaster full-time onsite

Working Hours: 42 Hours / Week. (Mon-Thur 08:00-17:00, Fri 08:00-16:30)

Salary: £40-60K (junior position also open, please reach out for further details).

Role Itself:

  • To support, plan and manage all kinds of tasks and activities, within business projects, and make sure they are completed on time, meet the needs of the business and stay within budget.
  • Providing fresh input into design and modern development techniques, whilst supporting the analysis, testing & validation requirements for future products and processes.
  • Provide product and process technical support to operational teams when issues are present in-specification products.
  • A project will be defined but not be limited to providing increased capacity or introduction of a new product or system improvement. This may include introducing equipment or materials.

Reporting to: Technical Projects Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting the implementation, execution, control and completion of specific tasks within key projects, ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals, supporting project leaders and operations as instructed by the Technical Projects Manager.
  • To assist and support within the PDE team, the design, development and implementation of new and improved products and processes.
  • To support the prototype, pilot and industrial phases of all projects, across all facilities.
  • Recognise risk that could directly impact the likelihood of success and ensure such risk is both formally and informally measured throughout the lifetime of the project and focus on key risks.
  • Create and deliver project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Agree with project leader(s) the timescales, costs and resources needed to deliver the project on time, on budget, escalating to the Technical Projects Manager, of any roadblocks.
  • Manage their own, day-to-day operational aspects of the project(s).
  • Ensure that each stage under their responsibility, is progressing on time, on budget and to the right quality standards
  • Work effectively within the Projects team.
  • To be part of the tender process for tooling and equipment estimates as requested by project leaders or Technical Director-Plastics, of product development, negotiating with contractors and suppliers for materials and services
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of supply specifications and agreements to assure the security and specification of supply meets with the business and project needs, ensuring such specifications are in agreement with the project teams and approved by the Technical Director-Plastics.
  • Assisted with the provision of tool estimates, cycle times and material specifications by the Technical Projects manager in the overall project's investment plans.
  • To assist in the development of an extensive supplier framework both local and outsourced.
  • To work within and manage timelines (using Smart sheets and Microsoft Project manager).
  • Have firm alignment with the Technical Projects Manager-Plastics to debug products and components to ensure maximum sales potentials are maintained.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored

Essential Experience:

  • Mechanical or production engineering background (ideally higher education qualification
  • Relevant experience in the Plastic Closures Industry (packaging, Food / FMCG also considered).
  • Plastic processing and Injection moulding is operated and set up.
  • Knowledge of Injection Moulding Tools, in particular construction and design formats.
  • Use of AutoCAD to a basic standard allows for management and editing of layout and part drawings.

Desirable Experience: Some familiarity with Solid works, Inventor or Pro E 3 D design packages. Project management tools (MS project, Smartsheets). Project support / management knowledge and experience.
