Our client is a highly profitable independent manufacturing business unit, party of a successful 150 year old, £7bn, multinational, European headquartered group that manufactures industrial tools and equipment. The North East based UK operation serves a wide range of industries including food & beverage, medical, pharmaceutical, metal fabrication, oil and gas, automotive, chemical and pulp/paper and has a superb opportunity to recruit a new Financial Controller.

As a key member of the senior management team, you will help determine overall business direction, challenging and driving business performance, leading the Finance team.

Fulfilling a multi-disciplined role responsible for the financial, administrative, IT and risk management operations, your key responsibilities as Financial Controller will include:

  • Driving the finance team to deliver financial results, reporting and information to the business in a timely, effective and accurate manner - in accordance with Group guidelines as well as any relevant local regulations and statutory rules
  • Providing accurate, timely and relevant financial information and plans to assist the business to meet its strategic goals
  • Performing analysis of financial and non-financial key performance indicators, advising and consulting the management team regarding company performance based on those and on targets
  • Developing and coordinating the planning process with continued monitoring of budget versus actual results
  • Guaranteeing that appropriate risk awareness and internal control procedures are in place
  • Working in collaboration with engineering and manufacture departments to identify, analyse and control product cost and plant efficiency variations
  • Leading, motivating and developing the Finance team, ensuring efficient processes are in place
  • Responsible for accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing and data entry
  • Managing and delivering on budgeting and forecasting processes. Establishing and monitoring internal controls, cost drivers, and efficiency potential.
  • Leading local projects and driving improvements
  • Managing relationships with third parties that perform outsourced company functions (including payroll, pensions and insurances)
  • Coordinating payroll process with HR
  • Responsibility for coordination of internal and external audits
  • Preparing Tax calculations and files in collaboration with Tax Department team, handling related Tax matters
  • Ensuring that the business has efficient systems and procedures which satisfy the requirements of the Company and compliance with external regulations and bodies.
  • Reviewing and/or implementing policies and procedures

As Financial Controller you'll need:

  • Strong experience in a similar fast-paced role and environment, such as Financial Controller, Business Controller, Finance Manager - or looking to make the next step from Senior Management Accountant or Management Accountant role. Manufacturing experience advantageous.
  • CIMA/ACA/ACCA professionally qualified, preferably with a degree/equiv./above in Finance, Business Administration or similar
  • Strong business acumen including financial and business analysis skills, with experience in finance and business control
  • Good knowledge about general accounting principles, IFRS and statutory accounting rules
  • Strong knowledge of IT and business systems
  • Leadership and management skills
  • High initiative and effective communication skills

Benefits and rewards:

  • Salary £50,000 to £70,000 + up to 20% bonus + pension + benefits
  • To maximise pay/rewards, you must possess all outlined experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications
  • Full time, permanent role
