Senior Mechanical Engineer

Relevant Skills & Experience:

Education: BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates with HNC or equivalent qualifications will also be considered.

Design Experience:

Proven experience in designing pipework and associated equipment.
Background in any of the following industries will be welcome Water, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or Food

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and other client design documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, including preparing DWG models for import to SolidWorks by removing unnecessary items and adjusting world coordinates.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or basic hand calculations is desirable, though not essential.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, with experience in routing and weldments being highly desirable.
  • Digital Proficiency:
  • Experience using client portals for receiving and submitting information.
  • Work Environment Adaptability:
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Design Development:

  • Develop design solutions that comply with all relevant Client Specifications and British Standards.
  • Identify and mitigate foreseeable risks during installation, maintenance, and operation while preparing or modifying designs.
  • Installation Considerations:
  • Ensure site conditions, such as access and ease of installation, are factored into designs.
  • Produce fabrication drawings, complete with Bills of Materials (BOMs), once models are approved for construction.
  • Create detailed installation drawings to guide site teams effectively.
  • Client Interaction:
  • Attend meetings with Clients, both on-site and via Teams, to provide technical advice and collaborate on developing acceptable design solution

Documentation and Communication:

  • Maintain drawing registers and internal documentation, ensuring files are saved and issued correctly.
  • Regularly check client portals for updated information and transfer it to internal servers as needed.
  • Design Modification and Change Management:
  • Modify designs and manage changes throughout the project lifecycle, obtaining internal and external approvals as required.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with the client, addressing queries, suggesting alternative design solutions, and adding value throughout the project.
  • Reporting and Technical Assistance:
  • Report to Project Managers and Project Engineers, highlighting any variance between designs and tenders.
  • Provide technical assistance to site, tendering, and project teams as required.
