Group Financial Controller

Butler Rose is pleased to be retained by a dynamic SME business at an exciting juncture of growth with the recruitment of a Group Financial Controller. Our client is a services tech business, turnover is circa £45m and with a healthy operating profit. Our client is backed by private equity and primed for expansion through both acquisitions and organic growth. They're seeking a talented individual with a strong background in financial control, with good technical accounting skills, and people management to join a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation.

The Role

This pivotal position will involve managing all aspects of financial control, including tax, treasury, credit control, audit, and the preparation and filing of statutory accounts. You will be responsible for maintaining and developing a high-quality and optimal financial control environment across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership - Design, develop, and implement the target operating model for the Finance Controls function. Support the development of business strategic priorities both short and long-term to ensure the organisation meets its objectives. Coach and develop talent, driving high-performing teams.

Financial Reporting & Control - Prepare and deliver weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial deliverables. Ensure robust monthly group consolidation, accurate reporting, and development of group accounting policies. Manage internal financial controls, risk management, and monthly account balance reconciliations.

Audit - Coordinate with external auditors, oversee year-end processes, and ensure the timely production and filing of statutory accounts for all group companies and subsidiaries. Provide full support to the Board/Audit Committee and follow up on audit recommendations promptly.

Finance Transformation - Lead the finance transformation agenda, directing teams to deliver continuous improvement in processes, people, and systems. Manage transformation projects in line with agreed timelines and budgets.

Person Specifications

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or overseas equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years of financial controllership experience.
  • Proven track record in team development.
  • Experience in relevant sectors preferred.
  • Private equity exposure and M&A experience highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
