About the role

Lead the development and implementation of processes, practice and initiatives to foster a positive building safety culture within Housing and Landlord Services (HLS). To identify opportunities, design and deliver work packages that support the Building Safety & Fire Safety Manager to prepare, monitor and deliver building safety strategies and building safety cases in conjunction with consultants, internal stakeholders, external surveyors and ensure timely reviews are planned and undertaken.

Responsibilities

  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and best practice within the building safety industry.
  • Provide expert advice on complex issues and interpretation of policy, procedure and legislation.
  • Through the application of appropriate project methodology, manage, support and monitor progress of building safety projects and policy development ensuring objectives (e.g. time/cost and quality) are met.
  • Undertake research, developing expertise on subjects affecting building safety identifying opportunities and risks, lead on discrete projects, and coordinate project teams or working groups.
  • Work with the Building Safety team members to prepare, monitor and deliver building safety cases in conjunction with consultants, internal stakeholders, external surveyors and ensure timely reviews are planned and undertaken.
  • Lead on Building Safety Fund or other applicable grant applications and government returns.
  • Understand the different needs and expectations of customers and stakeholders, in relation to building safety, and ensure that processes are in place to meet their needs and exceed expectations where possible.
  • Plan and implement different and innovative approaches to meet customer needs and organise and attend consultation meetings, seminars, and working groups with key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Manage a small team supporting the administration function of the Building Safety team, ensuring that team members are supported and coached, and regular reviews of performance are undertaken.
  • Maintain an excellent up to date working knowledge of:

o Building and fire safety related policies and processes.

o The technologies, systems and databases supporting asset management.

o Best practice in reviewing assets and use of asset data.

  • To support improvements departmental, corporate, stakeholder and customer awareness of best practice, legislation and national developments in building safety.
