As a Drama Teacher, you will play a key role in delivering engaging and inspiring drama lessons to students across a variety of age groups. Your primary responsibility will be to create a dynamic and creative learning environment where students can explore their talents in drama and theatre. You will also encourage participation in school productions and extracurricular activities, helping to foster students' creativity, confidence, and teamwork skills. This role is essential in ensuring students have a well-rounded education and an appreciation for the performing arts.

**Key Responsibilities for a Drama Teacher

  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons that inspire and engage students in all aspects of drama, from performance techniques to theoretical knowledge.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively in accordance with school policies, ensuring a safe and positive environment for learning.
  • Ensure the drama curriculum is taught in line with national standards and school objectives, adapting lessons to meet the needs of all students.
  • Organize and direct school plays, performances, and extracurricular drama activities, encouraging students to participate and develop their skills.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on student progress, providing constructive feedback to help them grow and succeed in the subject.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Arts and other departments to provide a holistic learning experience for students.
  • Encourage a positive attitude to learning, promoting creativity, collaboration, and self-expression in a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, staff, and parents regarding student progress, performances, and other drama-related activities.

**Key Skills and Competencies

  • A deep understanding of drama and theatre, including performance techniques, dramatic literature, and production skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and inspire a diverse range of students, ensuring a productive and engaging learning environment.
  • Strong ability to manage time, plan lessons, and organize school productions and extracurricular activities.
  • Ability to lead student groups in productions while working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.

**Requirements

  • A degree in Drama, Theatre Studies, or a related field (essential).
  • PGCE, QTS, or equivalent teaching qualification (preferred).
  • Previous experience teaching drama in a secondary school setting is desirable.
  • A genuine passion for the performing arts and the ability to inspire students of all abilities.

**Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in directing school plays or managing drama clubs.
  • Training in behavior management and classroom support.
  • First Aid certification (preferred but not required).
