About the role...

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and experienced individual to join our Governance Team. In this pivotal role, you will help enhance and uphold the council's and company's approach to information management and data governance, specifically around data protection and freedom of information.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely across all departments to ensure the seamless implementation of Data Protection policies and procedures, fostering a culture of compliance and best practices throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the council's and company's data protection legislation to ensure the council and company remains compliant.
  • Support adherence to the Freedom of Information Act and associated regulations.
  • Drive the development, implementation, and upkeep of information governance policies and processes.
  • Partner with teams across the organisation to ensure the proper collection, management, and retention of data.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Council's Register of Processing Activities (ROPA) and all Data Protection registers.
  • Manage Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) as required.
  • Handle data subject rights requests, address complaints, and follow up on ICO notices.
  • Managing data sharing agreements

You will need...

  • Proven expertise in information management, data governance, and compliance
  • In-depth knowledge UK GDPR, Freedom of Information Act, and other relevant information governance frameworks.
  • Experience of working flexibly as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
