What does your typical day look like?
- Working 4 on, 4 off. 12 hour shifts from 7am – 7pm
- Checking and controlling access / egress to site
- Welcoming visitors, signing them in and ensuring they understand site rules
- Manage visitor car parking
- Manage weighbridge activities
- Watching closed-circuit television (CCTV) and controlling footage
- Walking around the site, checking security and looking out for problems
- Searching cars and employees as required
- Guards to be trained as First Aiders to deal with emergency cover if other first aiders are unavailable
- Manage site keys and the locking of office doors
- Receiving and dealing with incoming telephone calls
- Dealing with emergencies (fire)
- Writing reports on site incidents
What are the key ingredients needed for the role?
- Must be trustworthy - there are times when a Security Guard must work alone and must be trusted to stay vigilant
- Knowing when to lead, as well as when to follow the rules, is a crucial quality Security Guard's must possess. Leadership ability is imperative to maintaining the site safety. You will know when to impose necessary practices and common sense to eradicate a possible threat. Abiding by a strict code is also important, though there will be instances when a course of action is altered in order to keep the site safe
- Must remain professional at all times, and be able to communicate with site visitors & contractors. You will be an extension of our brand, as you will be the 1st point of contact and represents the company and the company standards
- Whether you are working as part of a team, or individually, you must be able to communicate with articulation and comprehension
- Must be calm yet assertive at all times. These skills are key to resolving situations involving conflict. In addition, showing respect for those they are working with is a fundamental part of the job, and must be able to produce a security report whilst capturing all key details
- There are some occasions where a Security Guard will need to be visibly present, but it is important to know when and how to blend in order to reduce the impact or disruption
- Remain passionate & positive. Maintain dedication, loyalty, and strong work ethic towards the Security Guard role and be helpful to their colleagues
