The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has a great opportunity for a Programme Manager, who is passionate about creating a more inclusive world on a fixed term contract (up to 2 years).

We are looking for a dynamic individual to drive our diversity initiatives forward who will bring their expertise and ideas to improve inclusion within science academia and become our in-house expert on Inclusion & Diversity (I&D).

About the role

  • Responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of diversity projects.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of all I&D matters, particularly on disability and accessibility, relating to the chemical sciences community, keeping up to date with legislative developments and emerging trends.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure that the I&D strategy is implemented across all our work, in line with the overall RSC strategy.

We are looking for:

  • Degree study or relevant qualifications or experience.
  • Proven experience of disability and accessibility issues in science, and initiative to develop new ideas and approaches to address disability inclusion.
  • General knowledge of the chemical science sector and wider STEMM community, including higher education, academia and industry.
  • Knowledge of the factors currently influencing the inclusion and diversity environment, as well as the needs and concerns of underrepresented people in the chemical sciences community.
  • Experience of working on complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and / or able to balance and prioritise across multiple projects, tasks and deadlines and organising meetings and events.
  • Ability to confidently handle communication with a sensitive nature, demonstrating empathy, tact, diplomacy and the ability to relate to people from all backgrounds.
  • Network of scientific contacts with lived and/or research expertise in disability in chemistry or related sciences, or evidence of being able to develop such networks.
