What is the role about?
Working in the Reed in Partnership Business Development Team the Senior Business Development Manager will be responsible for taking a leading role in bid projects and project managing smaller business development opportunities. Requirements of the role include writing tender response to a high level of quality, coaching and developing more junior staff, critiquing and improving quality of work produced by a bid team and participating in commissioner/stakeholder engagement before, during and after tender competitions.
This is a fully remote opportunity.
Just some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Complete PQQ/SQ responses to agreed timescales and a high level of accuracy, ensuring all relevant supporting documentation is included
- Liaise with external stakeholders and partners to gather information to inform delivery models and bid proposals
- Work with internal stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts in the development of drafts or in role as a Bid Lead
- Write high quality, logical tender responses and proposals which respond effectively to the requirements of tender specifications
- Analyse new bid opportunities and make recommendations to purse or not pursue, in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the business
- Coach and support more junior staff members during the bid cycle, providing advice and guidance on matters including drafting, information sources and good practice
- Represent Reed in Partnership at external events, building sector knowledge and creating links with potential partners and stakeholders
- Conduct market analysis and competitor analysis to support horizon scanning, identification of opportunities and inform positioning for new opportunities
- Support Bid Leads by overseeing the bid writing element of the bid process, improving the quality of drafts and the tender response as a whole through the critique and feedback to drafts prior to Bid Lead reviews
- Lead bid projects, co-ordinating the activity of a bid team to complete all required tender documents to time and quality requirements, developing deliverable service models and ensuring commercial viability of our offers
- Managing internal bid governance processes, ensuring all stages are completed at appropriate times in the bid cycle and tenders are effectively handed over to the implementation and operations teams charged with their delivery

Essential Criteria
- Experience of working to demanding and tight timescales maintaining a focus on quality of outputs
- Significant experience managing bids throughout the full bid cycle, from pre-bid to submission, on bids of a scale and sector similar to Reed in Partnership's (employability, citizen services, youth, justice, assessment, net zero skills, preventative health and wellbeing)
- Experience of developing and managing external business focused relationships in a business to business or business to public sector environment
- Experience of coaching and supporting junior reports and working with them to achieve specific projects to demanding and tight timescales
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to explain complex business concepts, delivery models/solutions. Ability to create reasoned bid responses to meet specific commissioner requirements and conveying complex delivery solutions
- Experience writing and critiquing tender responses, with a focus on commissioner requirements and demonstrating optimum value
- Demonstrable high level analytical skills working with complex process documentation or large volumes of statistical or financial data
- Experience of delivering clear and concise bid/no bid recommendations with rationale outlined to senior stakeholders
- Confident when dealing with a wide range of internal and external contacts and able to build rapport with key stakeholders
- Experience of analysing data to inform modelling assumptions, supporting the development of financial models and pricing strategies for new service models within a tender process
- Skilled in managing project teams and coaching junior staff
Essential Attainments
- Demonstrable track record of bid wins
- GCSE English Language at a minimum of a Grade B (or equivalent Level 2 qualification). OR achievement of a Level 2 in Literacy Assessment at interview stage
- A minimum of 2 A-Levels or an equivalent Level 3 Diploma
Desirable criteria
- Experience bidding for large-scale, complex public sector tenders
