Quality Control and Assurance Manager

This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the integrity of product throughout its production & lifespan, necessitating hands-on experience in laboratory settings & production/plant trials.

Client Details

Based in the Watford Area, my client is an environmentally and sustainability conscious FMCG (Personal Care, Fragrance and Home Cleaning)company undergoing rapid expansion. With an established NPD team, they are now seeking to grow their Quality team by making their first official hire, a QC Lab and Production Chemist Manager.

Description

This role would have the responsibility of contributing to the establishment of best practices within the Quality department, ensuring that product quality and integrity remain uncompromised throughout production and shelf life.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing Quality Supplier Approval and Testing procedures for all incoming raw ingredients.
  • Creating and managing a database for Quality Customer Complaints, leading investigations in collaboration with Production and R&D/NPD to identify and resolve issues.
  • Developing optimal manufacturing practices from a Quality perspective, including identifying and addressing potential areas risk, such as cross-contamination, etc.
  • Identifying non-conformities and performing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).
  • Establishing a Hold & Release program to ensure that substandard product is not released.
  • Utilise problem-solving techniques to rework products and minimise waste.
  • Conducting shelf life studies to ensure that product quality remains stable.
  • Driving entrepreneurial initiatives within Quality through continuous improvement programs/projects.
  • Take a holistic approach on quality, both from a Laboratory and Production perspective.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science field.
  • Over 4 years of QC laboratory experience in industries such as Personal Care, Wine/Spirits, Home Cleaning Products, Chemicals, Fragrances, Flavourings, or Liquid-Based Food Manufacturing.
  • Over 4 years of production quality experience, including performing risk analysis and CAPAs at manufacturing sites.
  • Broad business perspective with the ability to recognize that not every issue is critical, and the skill to rework products accordingly.
  • Experience in establishing best practices and implementing various quality programs (supplier approval, raw ingredient testing, hold & release, traceability, etc.).
  • Exceptional sense of smell for sensory testing.
  • Experience in or enthusiasm for working in a rapidly scaling company or start-up.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments and taking on multiple roles.
