Indirect Tax Accountant

Our client is a leading, world renowned Global Commodity trading company.

An opportunity exists for a full time Indirect Tax Accountant on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will work within the Tax team and be responsible for the preparation of the indirect tax reporting within the tax team.

The successful candidate will have experience in International VAT. Candidates should be familiar with the preparation of VAT returns in various European countries primarily in relation to the domestic and intra-community supply of goods as well as imports and exports.

A sound knowledge of accounting systems in terms of International VAT reporting and reconciliations is also necessary. Experience in relation to the Energy Industry would be an advantage but not essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete and analyse various International VAT returns and reconciliations to ensure compliance and monitor/explain any variances/fluctuations within tight deadlines.
  • Ensure the accuracy of Excise and Customs Duty reporting in various Countries.
  • Prepare Intrastat returns and EC Sales List in various Countries.
  • Liaise with Finance team, traders and operators concerning classification of International VAT and Customs transactions.
  • Interact with other teams where necessary to collate and document the preparation of any information required by the tax team.
  • Prepare accounts balance sheet tax reconciliations and associated accounting entries.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Approximately 5 years' experience of International VAT reporting concerning the supply of goods. Experience in relation to commodities trading would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Experience of using accounting and trading systems from an International VAT Reporting perspective in relation to goods and services (primarily goods). In relation to accounting systems, SAP experience preferred.
  • Experience of using both Microsoft Word and Excel software packages.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly organized with a good attention to detail
  • Ability and commitment to providing a flexible and responsive service to the business
  • Ability to input and retrieve data accurately and streamline processes where required.
  • A commitment to improving the tax services delivered by the Tax Team to the Organisation and promoting good practice through the implementation of various projects and the streamlining of reporting processes.
  • To work quickly and efficiently within tight deadlines and communicate results effectively to Tax Manager.
  • Managing and prioritizing a varied workload for several projects.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members and front office colleagues
