You would be a leader and senior engineer in the Historical Market Data team within Investment Banking (IB) Technology. You would drive change and support our numerous global kdb+/ time-series market data platforms. You would oversee a number of business-driven initiatives in addition to leading the training and development of our junior engineers in London.

Our strategic intraday and historical market data platforms are heavily used across numerous business and technology groups and sits on critical path for many activities including: end of day (EOD) Marking and profit and loss (P&L), Algo Quant analysis, back-testing and algo calibration and numerous use-cases within Regulatory / Risk as source of observable market data.

You would be working in agile environment, balancing between archiving short term business goals and long-term sustainability.

Your key responsibilities

  • Everyday coding in kdb/q (knowledge of Java is a plus but not essential)
  • Face off to the business in multiple regions to understand requirements and translate it into design and delivery
  • Work effectively in a small, flat and regionally distributed multi-skilled team which support kdb platforms for our businesses globally
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for delivery: working with other Information Technology (IT) groups to define and deliver proper hardware infrastructure, deploy kdb components and work with Support teams to establish monitoring
  • Be heavily involved in architectural design discussions to help shape the strategic direction of our platforms

Your skills and experience

  • Hands on kdb+ development experience and exposure to Financial Market Data
  • Strong understanding of kdb+ architecture and design best practices
  • Experience leading leads and coaching/developing junior engineers
  • Thorough understanding of fundamental software engineering and computer science principles: object-oriented design, structured design, databases, algorithms, data structures, usability, refactoring, debugging, and configuration management
  • Ability to collaborate with many high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals whilst demonstrating excellent communications skills
