Our client is a premier construction company specialising in the development of apartment blocks, care homes, and mixed residential developments. Their commitment to quality, innovation, and timely project delivery has established them as a leader in the construction industry.

On behalf of our client, we are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to join their procurement team. The Assistant Buyer will support the procurement process, ensuring that all materials, equipment, and services are sourced efficiently and cost-effectively. Additionally, the role includes managing the acquisition and maintenance of plant equipment to support construction projects.

Assistant Buyer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in sourcing and purchasing materials, equipment, and services required for projects.
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery capabilities.
  • Prepare purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of procurement activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing agreements with suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality or delivery.
  • Assist in monitoring and controlling project budgets related to procurement.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to achieve them.
  • Analyse market trends and pricing to ensure competitive procurement practices.
  • Coordinate the acquisition, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment.
  • Ensure all plant equipment is compliant with safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of plant equipment inventory and usage.
  • Schedule and manage regular inspections and servicing of plant equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment of stock.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to maintain accuracy.
  • Implement efficient inventory management practices to minimize waste and reduce costs.
  • Work closely with project managers, site managers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements.
  • Coordinate with the finance department to ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments.
  • Support the procurement team in achieving departmental goals and objectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, plant equipment, and procurement processes.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
