Posted by Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited.

This school is dedicated to providing an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing environment for children and young people with special educational needs. Their goal is to help each student reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. We are currently seeking passionate and committed Teaching Assistants to join their dynamic team.
Role Overview:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of our students. You will work closely with the classroom teacher to deliver tailored support to students with diverse needs, helping them engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
Why Being Proactive Matters:

In a special school setting, it is essential to be proactive when working with children. Many of these students face unique challenges that require immediate and thoughtful responses to help them manage their day-to-day experiences. By anticipating their needs, offering consistent support, and creating structured learning opportunities, we can help prevent issues before they arise, reduce anxiety, and encourage positive behaviour. Being proactive also helps build trust and confidence, ensuring that each child feels safe, understood, and empowered to learn. Your ability to engage students early, guide them through challenges, and provide them with the tools to succeed is critical to their overall development.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering lessons and activities, adapting them to meet individual student needs.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support for students, focusing on learning, social, and emotional development.
  • Support students with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and behavioural challenges.
  • Help to create a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Encourage students' independence, self-esteem, and confidence.
  • Assist with personal care and physical needs, if required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and support students in managing challenges.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs (preferred but not essential).
  • A compassionate, patient, and flexible approach to supporting children.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to the specific needs of individual students.
  • A relevant qualification in childcare, education, or SEN support (desirable but not essential).
  • DBS clearance (required for the role)
