Specializing in projects within the hotel, leisure, and residential sectors, JFS takes pride in their growing list of repeat clients, a true testament to their dedication and quality service.

The Opportunity:

Due to strategic growth, JFS is seeking a skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial aspects of a wide range of construction and maintenance projects. You will be instrumental in ensuring successful project delivery, from inception to completion, by managing costs, providing commercial support, and driving financial performance.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with JFS project teams, clients, and their consultants to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and regulatory standards. You will play a pivotal role in decision-making processes, ensuring commercial success across various projects.

This role is ideal for a seasoned Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in their career. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of proven experience in a similar role. In return, you will receive the support and mentorship of a team with over 40 years of industry experience.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at JFS's business premises in Tring, Hertfordshire, with travel to project sites in London and the South-East of England.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual who can bring the following skills to the role:
  • Leading cost estimates, cost planning, and feasibility studies for a range of construction projects.
  • Conducting site visits to assess project requirements and preparing comprehensive quotations for approval by JFS directors and submission to clients.
  • Managing the preparation of subcontract tender documents, including bills of quantities, and performing detailed analysis of tender returns.
  • Overseeing the evaluation of subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring competitiveness and value for money.
  • Leading contract negotiations and managing contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Monitoring and managing project costs and financial performance, addressing deviations from budgets and contract sums as necessary.
  • Providing accurate and timely financial reporting, including forecasts, to JFS directors and key stakeholders.
  • Managing variations and change orders, assessing their impact on project costs and timelines.
  • Conducting regular site visits to review progress, measure quantities, and resolve commercial challenges.
  • Identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities and value engineering initiatives in collaboration with the project team.
  • Ensuring full compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards.
  • Acting as a commercial advisor in project meetings, providing insights to drive successful project outcomes.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.

This is not an exhaustive list, and you must be flexible and adaptable in your approach to carrying out duties that reflect the company's evolving needs.

About You:

  • A self-starter with the ability to manage projects independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a natural ability to build strong, lasting relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong client-centric mindset, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and delivering results.
  • A passion for excellence in your work, with a commitment to supporting a growing business.
  • A degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is desirable but not essential.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is advantageous but not mandatory - relevant experience is highly valued.
  • 6+ years of proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, or in a similar role within the construction, retail, or hospitality sectors.
  • A deep understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
  • Advanced numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and project information.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as Microsoft Excel and industry-specific quantity surveying tools like Bluebeam.
  • A detail-oriented mindset, with a focus on precision and accuracy in all aspects of your work.
  • Flexibility to travel to project sites as required.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for a new challenge and career progression within a dynamic, supportive environment.
