Our client, a charity organisation based in London is currently recruiting for Communications Manager.

The Role of Communications Manager

This role is key in supporting their Communications Team, particularly with support for managing their website, and steering ongoing communication projects.

You will be required to manage workload and respond to changing priorities, and must have strong interpersonal, organisational and technical skills, alongside a demonstrable ability to manage projects and an ability to adapt communications to different audiences.

  • Coordinate communications activity across the organisation to ensure a coherent and effective narrative to support our core aims.
  • Act as a brand champion to ensure their guidelines are applied consistently across the organisation, ensuring sign-off procedures are adhered to. Manage the Communications Grid, project management boards and weekly Communications Coordination meeting.
  • Provide support to the Senior Communications Officer in the delivery of their array of communications activities, when required.
  • Produce press releases and other communications materials as required?.
  • Responsibility for day-to-day management and maintenance of their website, and act as the primary point of contact for website queries from staff.
  • With a high attention to detail, ensure the website content is proof-read and accurate.
  • Take a holistic view of their website to ensure it is delivering maximum value as their key communications platform. This includes being proactive about ensuring their website is updated with timely and interesting content in support of their membership, events and other activities.
  • Monitor and report on website analytics and traffic trends.
  • Identify target markets and value proposition for upcoming activities. Produce successful narrative targeted to specific audiences, ensuring marketing material, including digital and printed content, is high quality and effective.

Person Specification

Skills & Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in media and communications and be able translate complex scientific issues into plain English
  • Creative and innovative thinker
  • Proficient in website management (ideally Wordpress or similar)
  • Excellent organisational skills, and meticulous attention to detail
  • First class IT skills
  • Skilled in using creative/design software
  • Content management systems, social media and website management
  • Plan and prioritise work, can meet deadlines under pressure
  • Dealing with senior scientists is desirable
  • Working in the life sciences sector is desirable
