My client, a private GP practice in Central London are seeking a dedicated Medical Secretary to join their team, providing essential support to both doctors and patients. This role is crucial in maintaining the smooth operation of their practice, ensuring that all patients receive timely and efficient care. As the first point of contact, you will play a key role in fostering positive relationships with patients.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • As the main point of contact for all patients, building rapport and delivering consistent and supportive customer service is essential.
  • Operating with a ‘front – of – house' approach, ensuring you are always polite, compassionate and interactive.
  • Assisting two private doctors by providing support to both them and their patients, able to remain level-headed when operating in a fast paced environment.
  • Handle prescription requests, ensuring all necessary checks are made before processing.
  • Type and manage referral letters, prioritising urgent cases to ensure timely medical interventions.
  • Schedule appointments, managing the calendar efficiently to accommodate patient needs.
  • Serve as the front-of-house representative, offering a friendly and professional service to all visitors.
  • Utilise various IT programs effectively, adapting to new systems as required (e.g., Meddbase/Midex, with possible migration to EMIS).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in line with medico-ethical principles, including GDPR and the Caldicott Principles.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent telephone and in-person communication skills, with the ability to prioritise patient care and build rapport.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to adapt to new software and systems.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively, especially in situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, medical terminology and procedures.
  • Experience in a medical or secretarial role is advantageous but not essential.
  • Commitment to ethical principles such as patient confidentiality and data protection.
