SEN Teaching Assistant

Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with an Ofsted rated "Outstanding" specialist SEN school in Northwich that support students between the ages of 2 - 19 as they require motivated and reliable teaching assistants for long-term cover. This school supports a myriad of SEN including ASD, LD, non-verbal, downs syndrome, moderate to complex delay and more. This is a long-term contract.

Your new role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant within this school, you will be supporting your new students on a 1:1 and group basis, taking a pupil-centred approach to education to ensure that their individual learning and general needs are met. You will use a myriad of behaviour management techniques to ensure a safe, stimulating and engaging learning environment for all pupils. You will effectively identify pupil triggers and de-escalate, taking pupils outside of the classroom to utilise sensory rooms or to a quiet space to calm down. You will be required to support across all key stages from EYFS - KS4.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as previous referenceable experience supporting SEN, as well as:

  • Be able to work with children between the ages of 2 - 19
  • Have experience supporting ASD, LD, GLD, downs syndrome and/or non-verbal
  • Have the ability to take a pupil-centred approach to learning
  • Previous experience using Makaton or PECs is advantageous but not essential
  • Be willing to commit to a long-term contract
