Property Paralegal/Legal Assistant

Burgess Hill - West Sussex

Full-time - 35 Hours per week (1 hour lunch break per day)

An exciting opportunity has emerged at our long-standing firm in Burgess Hill.

Due to continued departmental growth we are looking to appoint a new Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our successful and thriving Property department on a permanent basis, with the intention of training to become a qualified fee earner.

As a newly appointed member of staff, you will preferably have a good knowledge of property matters from previous positions; but applications are also very welcome from university graduates looking to step into their first full-time role.

Your main role will be assisting the Property team Solicitors with all aspects of Property work - Conveyancing and Commercial Property - and there will be ample opportunities for development and progression. This will allow you to work independently under close supervision of an experienced Solicitor to gain valuable experience.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working within a busy Property Department either as a Secretary, Legal Assistant or Paralegal is preferred but not essential.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills along with great organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work towards targets and tight deadlines.
  • A work ethic that is second to none
  • An approachable and empathetic attitude towards clients
  • The ability to work well under your own initiative.
  • Competence with Computer Management systems and Microsoft Office

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Taking initial instructions from Clients and setting up files (physically and on system)
  • You will assist the fee earner at all stages of the file in accordance with Conveyancing Quality Scheme Standards, under direct supervision.
  • You will ensure all financial transactions are in line with the Solicitors Accounts Rules
  • Liaising between Clients and Estate Agents - taking phone calls and answering emails and other correspondence related to the matter.
  • Using Land Registry Portal for post completion work

Benefits:

  • Potential flexibility with home working/hours
  • 20 days starting holiday (plus Statutory/bank Holidays)
  • Additional generous Christmas holiday allowance
  • Opportunity to begin training as qualified fee earner.

This is a fantastic prospect to join a friendly, close-knit team in a highly regarded and local firm. This will be a real opportunity to springboard your career and set down some roots in a high-street practice.
