Job Title: Technician

Pay Rate: £12.75 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Start Time: Between 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM

Location: Cardiff Rd, Barry CF63 2YL

About the Role: In this role, you will provide technical support and process operation for the Process Research and Development team. You will work as part of a team in a laboratory setting, supporting chemists and engineers, and ensuring the smooth and safe execution of laboratory work.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team in a laboratory supporting chemists and engineers.
  • Manage and safely execute laboratory work requests, maintaining and running laboratory reactors and documenting data.
  • Follow detailed procedures closely, accurately, and reliably, recording readings and observations using relevant equipment and instruments.
  • Take responsibility for the safe operation and routine maintenance of laboratory reactors and feed systems, troubleshoot faulty equipment, and effect repairs or initiate repair processes as appropriate. Document maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
  • Demonstrate proficient application of lab safety programs, including Life Critical Standards. Write safe work permits and perform equipment isolation's.
  • Promptly and effectively communicate issues to project teams and lab leadership to enable or accelerate problem resolution.
  • Actively participate in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem-solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, or 2+ years of relevant process operation or laboratory experience required.
  • Demonstrated track record of initiative, time-management, and problem-solving skills applied to identifying, prioritising, and completing multiple tasks.
  • Experience working in teams and employing interpersonal skills to influence actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with laboratory reactors and/or rotating equipment.
  • Experience with instrument and electrical installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience or knowledge of management of change, procedure use, safe work permitting, and isolation of energy sources processes.
  • Experience or familiarity with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical instruments, such as gas chromatographs (GC).
