Brewers are essential team members who contribute to the overall success of the brewery. Their role is hands-on, requiring a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and a passion for the brewing process.

Role and Responsibilities:

Production

  • Responsible in all aspects of the brewing process, including mashing, lautering, boiling, fermenting, conditioning, and packaging.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure the quality and consistency of the brewed products.
  • Operate brewing equipment, such as kettles, fermenters, pumps, and packaging machinery.
  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of brewing equipment and production areas.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues that may arise during the brewing process, taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Work closely with other brewery staff, including brewers, cellar operators, and packaging teams, to ensure efficient production.

Ingredient Handling:

  • Measure and handle raw materials, including malted grains, hops, yeast, and other additives.
  • Accurately weigh and mix ingredients according to recipes discussed with the head brewer.

Quality Control:

  • Monitor and control various parameters during the brewing process to ensure product quality.
  • Perform routine quality checks, such as pH measurement, temperature, gravity readings, and sensory evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate records of brewing activities, including production logs, inventory records, and further QC documentation.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and attention to detail.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Follow industry regulations and compliance standards for food and beverage production.

Forklift Operation

  • Record checks and move stock with a counterbalance forklift (training can be provided)

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a brewery environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic brewing principles and equipment / relevant scientific background with qualification preferred but not essential.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour by lifting and moving heavy materials, kegs, and equipment. Work in varying temperatures and conditions.
