Senior Design Engineer - Peterborough (Hybrid) - Up to £45/hr - Inside IR35
Do you have engine design experience and are you looking for a new long term hybrid contract?We are currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join one of the world's leading manufacturers of off-highway machinery and diesel and natural gas engines.
As a Senior Design Engineer in the team, you will be expected to have strong relevant design experience, knowledge of IC engines and be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks and projects.
You will design and package a variety of core engine components which include major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain and in-cylinder components. Components related to breather, cooling & lubrication systems, FEAD systems.
- Working in a multi-disciplined global team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirements
- Developing strong relationships with suppliers where travel is encouraged to ensure design solutions are aligned to high quality and cost expectations
- Planning and managing project and sub-project deliverables, ability to lead
- Conducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
- Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews
What you should have:
- Knowledge in a minimum of one or more of the following Core Engine systems: Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems, Bolted joint and sealing experience
- Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued
- 3D CAD experience (CREO preferred with Teamcentre)
- Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems
- Experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector
- Experience with alternative fuels and spark ignited engines
- Familiarity with FMEA and APQP methodology
