  • Salary: £30.00- £38.00 PAYE or upto £48.65 via an umbrella company.

We are currently seeking an experienced Interim Payroll Manager to lead a Payroll Team for a period of 3-6 months. This role is based in Epsom, Surrey, with hybrid working allowing for 2 days in the office. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the People Services Team, delivering exceptional HR services and ensuring a great customer experience while meeting all policy and compliance requirements.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead and deliver end-to-end internal payroll in line with legislation, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and a high level of employee experience.
  • Collaborate with the global People Hub Team based in Bangalore to ensure seamless payroll operations.
  • Oversee pre-payroll processing, payroll runs, and post-processing tasks, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements.
  • Manage monthly payroll reconciliation and third-party payment reports, including Pensions and Court Orders.
  • Authorise and transmit BACS payments within required deadlines.
  • Maintain ongoing compliance with National Minimum Wage requirements.
  • Process and reconcile Flexible Benefits and manage Annual Renewal.
  • Report to Senior Stakeholders on payroll service delivery and lead proactive initiatives for business improvements.
  • Engage with HR Centres of Expertise to understand the impact on payroll operations.
  • Identify and implement service delivery improvement initiatives based on customer satisfaction feedback.
  • Manage the service delivered by the People Hub Payroll Team in Bangalore.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for all payroll-related issues.
  • Respond to complex payroll queries in line with governance requirements and SLAs.
  • Manage and develop the Payroll Team.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal and external auditing requirements.
  • Lead on payroll-related projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Recognised payroll qualification or equivalent knowledge and expertise obtained via experience.
  • Proven delivery of internal payrolls for c8,000 employees+ (not outsourced).
  • Detailed understanding of current payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Significant success in a payroll leadership role.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems, Oracle experience highly preferable.
  • Experience with Flexible Benefit Programmes and Salary Sacrifice arrangements.
  • Ability to lead payroll projects alongside operational delivery.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and initiative.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience with offshore service delivery in an HR Shared Service capacity.
