Production Supervisor

Due to continued growth our client situated in the heart of Manchester are seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to manager the day to day running of their production facility.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • A proven track record of "leading from the front" with several years in a supervisory position within food manufacturing.
  • Excellent leadership, management and communication skills (written & oral).
  • Ability to understand complex production processes using bespoke machinery.
  • Proven problem solving and planning skills, with confident and decisive decision making.
  • Able to co-ordinate and work with the directors and other senior department heads.
  • Robust character to maintain discipline whilst motivating others, creating a positive working/team environment.
  • Commitment to producing cakes of consistently high quality with an eye for detail.
  • High standards in literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience of audits by Food Safety Certification Bodies.
  • Training or awareness in food hygiene, good manufacturing practices and allergens.
  • Capable of developing, in time, to the role as production manager.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the general day to day running of all production lines and the supervision of approximately 26 production staff.

Emergency cover for Packing Supervisor when off, assisting the selected designate.

RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE

Induction of new staff

  • Induction training of all new recruits.

Staff organisation

  • Working efficiently with the packing and mixing supervisors to co-ordinate efficient production.
  • Organising the rota/tasks for staff on a day-to-day basis and ensuring rotation of tasks/staff throughout the working shift.
  • Monitoring and re-iterating to all staff the importance of punctuality.
  • Maintaining staff discipline.
  • Dealing with absenteeism and breaches of discipline, reporting recurring issues to the production director/directors.
  • Reporting any absenteeism to the office before 9.00am.

Health and Safety

  • Ensuring that guards on the machinery are checked throughout the working shift.
  • Manual handling instructions for staff.
  • First Aid Training.

Hygiene

  • Supervising cleaning of production area, lines, surrounding areas and equipment (Daily, weekly and monthly schedules).
  • Organising the steam cleaning rota in liaison with the preparation team.
  • Overseeing completion of cleaning schedules/records.
  • Organising staff for litter run of external areas as required (minimum once per week).
  • Overseeing the cleaning of specialised equipment at the end of each day with remove all debris.

Company Hygiene Rules

  • Monitor and ensure staff follow company hygiene rules including, but not limited to:-

o Wearing of all PPE correctly, including hairnets and beard snoods.

o Always following the hand wash procedure.

o Monitoring staff are not wearing any form of jewellery not permitted in the production areas, False nails/nail varnish or eating in production areas.

o Dealing with breaches of the above and enforcing standards.

o Reporting of any major or recurring issues to the production director/directors.

HACCP

  • Maintaining QA records relevant to the HACCP.
  • Member of incident team.
  • Awareness of all relevant Critical Control Points.
  • Foreign body checks.

Quality Management System (BRC Requirements)

  • Correct completion and sign off QA records relevant to production department.

Quality Control

  • Including but not limited to: -

o Ensuring the highest level of Quality Control for production to meet all major customer requirements.

o QA inspections of the filling.

o Control of weights of filling and pastry throughout the shift.

o Monitoring and resolving all issues with Pastry and filling on the production lines.

o Controlling of Re-work.

General Production Duties

A 7am start is required to allow at least 30 mins for setting up the machines and making all the necessary arrangements for the production lines to operate efficiently prior to the beginning of the main shift that must always start at 7.30am.

Full details of set up will be provided as part of initial training.

Training of Staff

  • Staff on the job training.
  • Completing accurate and contemporary training records.

Overview of Package

  • Hours of work - 7am - 4pm Monday to Friday (flexibility around these hours would be required).
  • Occasional overtime
