Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Chester-based mainstream secondary school as they are looking to recruit a full-time teaching assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with an SEN pupil in Year 8. This is a long-term temporary contract attached to additional funding.
Your new role
In your new role as an SEN Teaching Assistant you will be supporting a pupil in Year 8 that has ASD (autistic spectrum disorder). You will be supporting as this pupils main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate, advocating for them throughout the day and walking them back to their parents/guardians at the end of the day. You will support them inside and outside of lessons, encouraging them to give input during lessons, promote their engagement and ensure that any activities they want to partake in are safe and accessible. This pupil is independent and does not require any intimate care but is selective verbal and can trigger. You assist in the development of their speech and language and effectively manage their trigger points.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable experience working with children and young people, as well as:
- Experience working with SEN/ASD
- Be able to lead on speech and language sessions
- Be able to take a pupil-centred approach to education
