Our client, a well-respected national children's charity, whose purpose is to transform the lives of the UK's most vulnerable children, is looking for a Nursery Cook to join their team.

Synopsis of duties:

  • To be responsible for daily preparation of cooking nutritious meals & dessert, being able to cook for 70-90 children aged 3 months to 5 years daily.
  • Preparation, cooking and baking various food items according to the nursery menus, being able to provide a range of diverse meals to meet with diverse cultural celebrations.
  • Prepare and pack meals appropriately for the delivery of food to the other nursery setting.
  • Being able to plan a rotating menu following the ‘Healthy Eating' guidelines.
  • Ensure the kitchen is always maintained to the highest possible standard of hygiene maintaining our five stars.
  • Being able to assist the kitchen assistant in clearing and washing up after meals, cleaning of all kitchen equipment and all general hygiene of all kitchen areas.
  • Knowledge and understanding of food allergies, being able to cook for
  • children with various/special dietary needs.
  • Being able to work as part of a team.
  • To be able to take responsibility for the workload in the kitchen and work without immediate supervision and to use own initiative.
  • Responsible for checking stock regularly and placing orders for dried, fresh, and frozen ingredients as required and conducting stock control in accordance with set budget.
  • To ensure all faults, breakages, shortages in equipment are all brought to the attention of the centre Manager.
  • Maintaining necessary paperwork for the Kitchen.
  • Maintain an exceedingly high standard of personal hygiene and personal hygiene practices and to wear uniform provided each day.
  • Understanding of working in guidelines of the "Safer food Better Business" Foods Standards Agency
  • Be fully conversant with the requirements of food hygiene and food safety legislation, the health and safety at work. Act and fire evacuation procedures.
  • To read and comply with all nursery policies.
  • To undertake First Aid and other training relevant to the role as required
  • To attend staff meetings, supervision sessions and annual appraisals.

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year's experience cooking for a group of children or adults.
  • Preparing/cooking nourishing meals.
  • Providing for special dietary needs.
  • Keeping within a budget.
  • Responsibility for a kitchen
