Manufacturing Engineer

One of the largest building construction product facilities in Leicester is currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join their team. The position is paying up to £22 per hour (PAYE) and £30 per hour (Umbrella). The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday to Friday day shifts (start time flexible with 6am/7am start with relevant finish time) Fridays are a shorter day working 5 hours.

The role

This role is a specialist paint manufacturing engineer which is expected to be applied to the process and facility requirements of metal pretreatment, electrocoat, wet and powder paint application, manual and mechanical handling, tooling, masking, work standards and process development for current product and NPIs. Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to;

 Apply in-depth technical knowledge of industrial pretreatment, electrocoat and wet and powder coating processes for problem solving and process improvement
 Evaluate new product suitability for the paint process from drawings and CAD models and liaise with engineers for design changes as necessary
 Validate NPI process through prototype builds
 Masking development and first item buy-off
 Create and maintain standard work documentation
 Train Operations personnel in new processes
 Design all lifting and suspension equipment and maintain statutory inspection and testing regime
 Control repairs of lifting and suspension equipment
 Validate all new equipment and tooling in collaboration with Operations
 Fully investigate and report safety related issues to management and Operations personnel
 CI sponsor for all safety and process improvements
 Risk Assessments including manual handling studies
 Obtain quotes and raise purchase orders
 Ensure prompt payments to suppliers on receipt of invoice
 Support capital plant upgrades and installations
 Control spending within budgetary constraints and pursue cost saving opportunities

Experience/ Qualifications required:

 A thorough knowledge of industrial paint processes for metal substrates, manufacturing concepts and Lean principles
 The ability to influence others and lead teams
 Analytical ability as well as excellent communication skills
 A degree in a Manufacturing Engineering discipline (or related). Applicants with extensive relevant paint process and facilities knowledge and experience will also be considered.
 A minimum of 3 years of appropriate manufacturing experience
