Interim Finance Manager (FTC)

The Role

My client is currently going through an extensive transformation and this individual will be critical in driving transformation initiatives, improve efficiency, effectiveness and reduce operational risk for the finance team whilst also taking ownership of the BAU management reporting.The role has two distinct areas to it:

  • Responsibility for the financial reporting, including the monthly flash and actual reporting in line with FRS and group accounting policies.
  • Management and continual improvement of the Finance Operations teams, mainly accounts payable, accounts receivable and intercompany.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Preparation of the monthly flash and actual management reporting pack in accordance with Group deadlines, including any ad hoc reporting requirements, e.g. IFRS questionnaires.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for corporation tax and VAT and certain GL accounts where confidentiality is required (limited).
  • Preparation of some and review of month-end reconciliations of direct reports.
  • Responsible for miscellaneous tasks which form the month end close including opening/closing period, ensuring all journals are adequately reversed and ensuring currency balance sheet revaluations are executed correctly.
  • Assist with multi-currency transaction processing and reporting
  • Support of the half year and year end external audit, including support of the preparation of the year-end Statutory Accounts including some working papers.

Management of Finance Operations Teams:

  • Oversee and manage a team of 5 direct and indirect reports in AP and intercompany.
  • To review existing processes and make recommendations to streamline and improve these, by working with other functions (Procurement, Technology Finance, People teams) to ensure a cohesive and aligned approach, with best-in-class customer service at the heart of it.
  • Ensure VAT is being charged and reported appropriately through review. Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns (with support from Ernst & Young).
  • Provide back-up for the master data management team by approving new supplier set-ups.
  • Involved in ad hoc accounting and tax projects as required.
  • Assist with the implementation and testing of any accounting system changes.

Successful Applicant

  • Sound knowledge of IFRS and the ability to interpret group accounting policies to apply to the organization.
  • Numerate and analytical, with strong Excel skills.
  • Well-developed financial management skills to analyze and translate the complex dynamics of the business into reporting
  • Experience in a multi-national, complex organization.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills to work effectively across the organization, including with senior stakeholders at several levels
  • Management experience or a desire to develop as a manager, with a focus on establishing a high performing, happy team.
  • Comfortable working with senior stakeholders across the business - finance and non-finance with strong influencing and partnering skills.
  • The ability to function effectively in a fast moving, agile environment, with the ability to adapt and cope with ad hoc requests and changing demands.
  • Numerate and analytical, with strong Excel skills.
  • Focus on accuracy and quality of output and integrity of numbers - attention to detail.
  • Questioning style and able to ask or challenge if something doesn't look right - strong level of curiosity.
  • Prior experience with transformation projects and BPO desirable
