The Remember Veterans (RV) service provides specialist support to ex-Armed Forces personnel who are involved in or at risk of entering the criminal justice system. Our veteran-led approach ensures those we support receive high-quality, tailored interventions that address their unique needs, promoting rehabilitation and long-term stability.

About the Role

YSS are looking for a dedicated, hardworking and solution focused Remember Veterans Case worker to join our organisation, who is passionate about veterans and the life challenges that they face. The Remember Veterans Case Worker will manage a caseload of veterans who are in or at risk of entering the Criminal Justice System, across the 7 life pathways (Accommodation, Well-Being, relationships, finance, Drugs/Alcohol, Attitudes/Behaviour, Education, training and Employment), empowering the veteran to make positive changes to their life. They will ensure high-quality service delivery and will play a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across West Mercia.

Key Responsibilities

Casework & Service Delivery

  • Manage a caseload of veterans engaged in the RV service, offering tailored support across the seven life pathways (e.g., accommodation, well-being, substance misuse, employment).
  • Conduct assessments, develop action plans, and facilitate access to appropriate services.
  • Provide direct support through face-to-face meetings, telephone, and virtual communication.
  • Create networks and groups of support for veterans across the service delivery area.
  • Ensure case records are accurately maintained using the YSS Case Recording System to monitor outcomes and provide evidence of impact.
  • Work alongside the Team Manager to prepare high-quality reports, including quarterly reports and case studies, to support funding requirements and service evaluations.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Work alongside the Veterans Families First worker to ensure comprehensive representation for YSS and the veterans services at any key veteran meetings and forums. Attendance will be shared between the two workers.
  • On occasion, to represent YSS and the veterans' services at Partnership meetings in the absence of the Team Manager.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with the Armed Forces Covenant, police, probation, NHS, and third-sector organisations.
  • Work collaboratively with referral partners to promote the RV service and encourage cross agency cooperation.

Leadership & Development

  • Support colleagues by sharing knowledge and expertise on veteran-specific issues.
  • Identify gaps in provision and contribute to service development initiatives.

Data & Reporting

  • Ensure all casework is accurately recorded and monitored through the YSS Case Recording System.
  • Use data insights to identify trends, measure impact, and inform service improvements.
  • Work alongside the Team Manager to provide clear, concise reports for internal and external stakeholders, including funders and commissioners.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working with individuals facing complex challenges, particularly in the criminal justice system or veteran support services.
  • Strong case management and reporting skills, with the ability to analyse data and produce clear, high-quality reports.
  • Experience representing an organisation in professional forums and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and engage effectively with vulnerable individuals.
  • Strong IT skills, including experience with case recording and data management systems.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • You must have the right to live and work in the UK to be considered for this role.

Desirable

  • Veteran status (former service in the Armed Forces).
  • Experience working within criminal justice, probation, or mental health services.
  • Knowledge of veteran-specific support networks and services.
  • Experience with grant reporting and impact measurement.

Other Requirements

  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential for travel across West Mercia).
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends as required.
