Housing Needs Assistant Officer

Are you a motivated and self-driven individual seeking an exciting opportunity within Harrow Council? We invite you to join our expanding team as a Housing Needs Assistant Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Health and Safety: Adhere to role-related responsibilities outlined in the council's health and safety policy, actively promoting a positive safety culture.

2. Professional Communication: Handle inquiries (in person, writing, or by telephone) promptly within corporate timescales.

3. Exceptional Customer Care: Consistently deliver exceptional customer service.

4. Tenancy and Estate Management: Collaborate with partners and service providers, meeting corporate and statutory deadlines.

5. Data Maintenance: Assist in maintaining up-to-date databases and rent collection records.

6. Diversity Approach: Deliver services aligned with the Council's diversity approach.

7. Duty Rota: Provide duty rota coverage.

8. Fob Issuance: Issue fobs to customers as necessary.

9. Community Collaboration: Collaborate with tenants/residents' associations to enhance community well-being.

10. Sign-Up Oversight: Monitor the sign-up spreadsheet to ensure timely sign-ups.

11. Visits: Conduct weekly visits as assigned.

12. General Enquiries: Handle inquiries and correspondence.

13. Tenancy Enforcement: Assist with general tenancy enforcement and management.

14. Community Relations: Promote community cohesion and positive relations.

15. Performance Metrics: Achieve relevant key performance indicators.

Experience and Skills Required:

" Understanding: Familiarity with service delivery, government policies, legislative frameworks, and key issues related to housing tenancies, including equalities considerations.

" Knowledge: Working knowledge of housing and public sector legislation.

" Repairs and Maintenance: Basic understanding of repairs and maintenance issues for homes and estates.

" Welfare Benefits: Fundamental knowledge of welfare benefits.

" Awareness: Sensitivity to the needs of minority groups and potential barriers to meeting those needs.

" Customer Focus: Experience working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

" Diversity: Previous exposure to diverse work environments.

" Problem-Solving: Proficiency in problem-solving techniques.

" Education: Equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and maths) or similar educational proficiency.

" Software Skills: Ability to use software tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, and email) proficiently.

" Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including letter writing.
