Development Underwriter

General Purpose:

To support the company's growth objectives by proactively underwriting development cases, including ground-up builds, from enquiry through to completion. This role ensures that all development cases are underwritten in accordance with company policy, processes, and product criteria, while achieving individual and departmental performance targets.

Main Duties:

  • Underwriting Management: Oversee the complete underwriting process for development cases, ensuring smooth progression from initial enquiry and offer through to successful completion.
  • Continuous Learning: Actively seek guidance from Senior Team members and the Credit Manager to expand your knowledge and enhance your understanding of complex development underwriting.
  • Client and Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with the Credit Department, managing clear and effective communication with clients, solicitors, and brokers to ensure timely completion of cases.
  • Continuous Improvement: Focus on personal and process improvement by identifying and implementing ways to enhance your working methods and underwriting practices.
  • Team Support: Assist the team with workload management and provide cover during holidays or peak periods, ensuring team goals are met.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate records and system data for all cases under your management, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Performance Optimization: Adhere to best practices to achieve optimal performance in development loan completions, striving to meet or exceed individual and departmental KPIs.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed of legal, industry, and product changes, actively participating in training sessions to support your ongoing professional growth.
  • Broker Relationship Management: Manage relationships with allocated brokers, ensuring effective communication and efficient processing of their cases.
  • Documentation Preparation: Prepare valuation instruction letters, instructions to solicitors, and security documents, ensuring alignment with underwriting policy guidelines.
  • Project Oversight: Instruct and review valuations, Project Monitoring Surveyor reports, and asset manager reports for cases under your supervision, liaising with your allocated panel solicitor as necessary.
  • Goal-Oriented Approach: Remain focused on meeting individual and departmental targets for quality, service, and volume, maintaining a positive and proactive attitude.
