Functional Skills Tutor - Maths (Work Based Learning)

Location - Worksop

Salary - £26,352 per annum pro rata

Temporary role until July 2025

We have an amazing opportunity in Worksop for a Functional Skills Tutor to help support a local college.

Responsibilities for the role of Functional Skills Tutor - Maths:

  • Be accountable for the delivery of Functional Skills across a variety of vocational subjects, ensuring learners' timely completion of Apprenticeship programmes
  • Using the Diagnostic Assessment material, assess levels of competency within numeracy for all learners and groups you are responsible for designing and implementing an individual learning plan with each learner tailored to their specific learning needs
  • Regularly assess, monitor, review, evaluate and adjust the individual learning plan when necessary
  • Create, prepare and adapt teaching materials including Google quizzes, assessments and assignments, to enable all learners to progress
  • Prepare Curriculum Training and Assessment Plans (CTAPS), (previously known as Schemes of Work and Schemes of Assessment)
  • Produce and deliver appropriate individual and group exercises to achieve the Individual training plan and achievement for your learner
  • Assist learner in producing work, per City & Guilds Standards for numeracy
  • You will also support the training team by adapting and developing teaching resources for the teaching of functional skills
  • Identifying and supporting learners with additional learning support where required
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • All work carried out must satisfy external body requirements and be in line with College policy and procedure
  • Agree on individual delivery requirements for Apprentices who don't attend College and require tuition on-the-job; both in 1:1 and group situations
  • Liaise with Assessors/Reviewers to track the Functional Skill aspects of Apprenticeship programmes ensuring timely completion
  • Demonstrate to learners how functional skills are used in their vocation
  • Attend and contribute to Apprenticeship meetings regularly, providing an update on functional skills progress
  • Book and co-ordinate Functional Skills exams for Apprentice learners by the exams procedures
  • Assist students with assessment planning and recording progress and achievement
  • Work with your line manager to identify development needs and actively seek out opportunities for relevant CPD

  • Undertake any other associated duties that may occur as part of the role, including some evening work as agreed with the Manager
  • As a member of the Work Based Learning department, you will report directly to the Maths Lead for Apprenticeships
  • You will build good working relationships with other key stakeholders i.e. Curriculum Areas, Work Based Learning Team Leaders, Assessors, coordinators and Additional Support staff, exams and the MIS department

Skills and Experience for the Role of Functional Skills Tutor - Maths

  • Previous experience in a teaching or work-based learning role is essential for the role
  • Must have a full teaching qualification
  • Must have Levels 2 or higher in Maths
  • Excellent communication skills and strong work ethic
  • Ideally hold an A1 Assessor qualification
  • Ideally will be a Google Educator level 1
  • Familiarity with relevant training standards and assessment requirements
  • Understanding of Apprenticeship success and timely success rate criteria
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Apprenticeship frameworks is essential
  • Must have the ability to understand and use ALN/ASN criteria to support learner achievement.
  • Must have the ability to agree and support the achievement within relevant timescales of individual candidate assessment plans
  • A flexible approach to meeting individual candidate needs is imperative to the role
  • Will have well-developed interpersonal skills to facilitate positive relationships with students, colleagues and employers
  • Must have the suitability to work with and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people receiving education and training
  • It is essential that the candidate can work with sensitive information and treat this confidentially in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act
  • Must be committed to a policy of equality which is relevant to all students, staff, clients and members of the public, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnic origin, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age and disability
  • Exceptional communication skills with students, teachers, parents, and more
