Location: Sites across Sheffield and Rotherham
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday - 8am to 4pm
Salary: £50,000 to £55,000 DOE

The Role

Our client is looking for a High Voltage Lead Engineer to provide technical expertise in the maintenance of the high voltage infrastructure installed on their sites. The infrastructure forms an extensive network including transformers, substations, and interconnecting cables operating at 66kv, 33kv, 11kv, and 3.3kv.

Role Overview

The High Voltage Lead Engineer will fulfil the role of "Engineer In Charge" as defined in the Business High Voltage Rules and provide technical expertise in all aspects of high voltage infrastructure and operation. They will manage high voltage resources to enable the department to achieve the required standards of plant availability, costs, and performance, thereby satisfying the operational demands of the Speciality Steels sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Transmission Network and Distribution Network Operators to coordinate activities related to the interface of external high voltage networks with the site's internal high voltage networks.
  • Provide a strategic overview of longer-term requirements both in terms of existing assets and future site developments.
  • In conjunction with the Procurement team, negotiate contracts with suppliers of services and equipment to achieve the required standards of service and cost.
  • Ensure that engineering teams and specialist contractors' activities comply with all statutory health, safety, and environmental legislative requirements. The Speciality business is accredited to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001.
  • Organise training and development for the engineering team to provide a safety-conscious and technically competent workforce.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Preferably educated to degree level but with a minimum of HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • Detailed knowledge and a minimum of 5 years' experience in maintaining high voltage infrastructure is essential, along with a strong technical knowledge of electrical principles relating to high voltage utilities supply.
  • Experience in man management with good communication skills, and the necessary leadership skills to motivate a skilled, flexible workforce.
  • A good knowledge of Health and Safety and Environmental legislation, with the ability to implement the requirements as part of departmental operations.
