Apprentice Service Engineer

Field Based, Cambridge / London area

Level 3 Engineering Technician (Tech Support) Apprenticeship.

We have an exciting opportunity for an aspiring young person to join Getinge, a Global Med Tech company, on an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship, working in our Infection Control service team in the Cambridgeshire/London area.

Getinge is a well-respected Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), saving lives through the manufacture and maintenance of a range of medical devices and solutions. Our Service Team is at the forefront of our business, responsible for routine servicing, testing and repairing of our equipment in hospitals and facilities throughout the UK and Ireland.

Our Apprentice will gain a wealth of knowledge and develop key technical skills through shadowing and then working alongside our team of dedicated engineers. You will become competent in the service, maintenance and repair of a variety of healthcare machinery, gaining transferable skills in Electrical & Mechanical Engineering and keeping vital equipment operating so that patients can receive the best care. You will be provided with comprehensive in-house on-the-job training, whilst attending Cambridge Regional College part-time to study for your qualifications up to Level 3.

The Apprentice will travel to hospitals and medical facilities around Cambridge, London and the South East area, so a driving licence is required.

Day to day responsibilities of a Getinge Service Engineer include:

  • Mechanical servicing of equipment.
  • Routine testing of Getinge equipment to the relevant standards as stated in terms and conditions of the client's contract.
  • Electrical/mechanical fault finding of equipment.
  • Calibration of equipment, where necessary.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of spare parts within guidelines. Mechanical servicing of equipment.

  • Produce quality documentation for submission to the customer via approved systems.
  • Regular communication with the internal Service Department.
  • Ensure the company equipment is being used and looked after correctly and kept in a safe condition. To report all faulty equipment or equipment out of calibration to Service Supervisor.
  • Ensure that correct returns and non-conformance report procedures are followed.
  • Ensure safe and tidy working including use of protective footwear, work wear and hard hats were required for local site working.
  • To problem solve, combining initiative with a practical and logical approach to all aspects of the position.
  • Produce written reports, as and when required/requested.
  • Submit accurately completed expense claim forms, with supportive documentation, on time
  • Assist the team members as and when required/requested.
  • To undertake any other duties as and when required
  • To follow Quality System and Health and Safety Requirements at all times
