Business Development Manager

A leading UK retail wholesaler has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager to join its sales team in the South of the UK.

You will be responsible for increasing its market share and size of the market within the region by developing sales opportunities with existing accounts by analysing territory sales data, minimising order losses and creating and maintaining a prospect database, as well as identifying and developing profitable business with new customers through lead generation, canvass calling & ongoing new account development.

You will need to be able to understand and influence what effective services & solutions would be appropriate for customers and then work with all internal and external teams to deliver the agreed solutions.

The role will suit someone with a strong background in B2B field sales, ideally from retail/hospitality/logistics industries (but totally open minded to others) with a proven track record in regularly exceeding sales targets. Geographically it will suit someone based in the Hampshire or Wiltshire area as it will cover Dorset and down to Portsmouth/Southampton This is a fantastic sales role with genuine career prospects within the organisation.

It is a remote role allowing for autonomy over diary management but the successful candidate can expect a routine of 4 days out seeing customers and prospective clients with one day/week from home.

Target salary £42K-£45K + £6800 car allowance + monthly target led bonus + Benefits. OTE circa £55K

The role will require you to:

  • Identify and develop profitable business with new customers in order to increase market share and size of the market within the region.
  • Work with the clients existing customers and utilise technology, such as Power BI, E-commerce techniques and available online platforms to develop profitable sales growth in line with or above the sales & profit targets.
  • Work with the clients specialists and external partners to ensure that all opportunities to work profitably with their existing and potential customer base are being utilised to meet or exceed profit targets.
  • Maintain open communication channels across the business to ensure there is a co-ordinated client-wide approach and activity with the customer.
  • Manage the relationship with the customer and ensure all queries and issues are dealt with in order to retain the customer's long term loyalty.
  • Provide accurate and timely information and feedback to management and other business areas to ensure the client can provide a continued level of service to its customers and utilise opportunities for growth.

Key Skills & Experiences Required:

  • Driven, positive, self-motivated and with strong organisational and account management skills
  • Proven experience in Field Sales roles, ideally within the hospitality / food / wholesale / retail / logistics industries. The ideal candidate would have excellent understanding of the food service/hospitality/catering industry.
  • Relevant Sales qualifications or business qualification to A level standard or equivalent
  • Competent in using technology specifically Microsoft Suite
  • Skill and experience at building strong relationships with customers
  • Exceptional selling and influencing skills
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Current driving licence and ability to work across the region as required for customer base
