Mission Planning & Control Principal Technical Specialist

Job Title: Mission Planning & Control Principle Technical Specialist

Salary: Circa £45,000-£60,000 depending on experience

Location: Bristol

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

Within the Mission Planning & Control Department, you will tackle a variety of activities from the technical development of MPC products. Working within the Mission Planning Technical Specialist Services area, this role will provide technical expertise to support the delivery of current and future architectures and emerging technologies (including EMS, Mission Control, EW etc.)

You will work across MP&C and the broader WSD to develop and deliver best practice within their domain by both generating new, cutting edge knowledge and transferring knowledge and skills to team members (with ongoing support and peer reviews etc.). The candidate may also be seconded into specific projects as a technical lead for technology developments or research programmes. The role will vary over time, and according to the state of projects.

The role will include:

  • Provide technical expertise input to Project(s)
  • Provide Support to informal and formal Peer Reviews (Technical Excellence) as well as Design Reviews.
  • Develop and maintain a full understanding of a domain including the associated standards, methods and tools.
  • Support technical studies and input into proposals for technical development and risk reduction activities.
  • Provide expertise to projects to enable design decisions and investigations to succeed, advising on best course of action from a technical perspective.
  • Become a key contributor to the technical development of tools, methods and processes– supporting the development of Functional Improvements activities within their domain and then delivering them.
  • Understand and identify the technical non-compliances across their domain and coordinate with the programme team regarding their impact or resolution.
  • Develop necessary technical expertise and support the development of the expertise of the MP&C department in their domain.
  • Develop and maintain a network of expertise and activity across MBDA, and MOD technical advisors.
  • Communicate with, and influence stakeholders in MBDA UK, across MBDA National Companies (France, Italy & Germany), and with the MoD customers as required by the assigned programmes.
  • Develop relationships with technical specialists & SME's in other MBDA functions and
  • Provide technical support to the programme leads in the form of technical appraisal of complex problems identifying risks and developing mitigation plans as necessary.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Highly motivated and pro-active individual who will need to be capable of working on their own initiative with a minimum of supervision, as well as within a larger team or stakeholder group
  • Comfortable operating in an environment within a degree of uncertainty
  • Able to work simultaneously with and influence multiple stakeholder groups, both from within MBDA, the MOD and the external stakeholder community
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a collaborative environment spanning a number of teams and locations is essential.
  • Experience of problem solving and a strong ability to think analytically.
  • Experienced practitioner within their Technical Domain.
  • High level of expertise and in depth technical knowledge of key specialist technologies and exploitation paths.
  • Proven ability to provide technical support on complex issues.
