Compliance and Sustainability Lead

An exciting opportunity has opened for a Product Compliance and Sustainability Lead to establish and drive compliance and sustainability initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing and distribution environment in Aldershot. This strategic and hands-on role is ideal for someone with 3+ years of experience in product compliance, regulatory affairs, or sustainability looking to build and shape a new function from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable UK and EU product legislation, including REACH, RoHS, WEEE, and the General Product Safety Regulation (GSPR).
  • Liaise with suppliers to gather accurate compliance documentation and product conformity data.
  • Maintain and manage technical files, declarations, safety data sheets, and certification records.
  • Respond to compliance-related customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory changes, providing internal guidance and updates.
  • Lead the development of a sustainability roadmap, including setting targets and defining reporting mechanisms.
  • Identify and implement sustainable materials, packaging options, and eco-friendly production methods.
  • Integrate sustainability considerations into product design and supply processes.
  • Ensure accurate environmental claims through data verification and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Act as the central point of contact for compliance and sustainability-related inquiries.
  • Provide training and guidance across teams to build internal awareness and accountability.
  • Develop tools for tracking compliance and sustainability performance, ensuring readiness for audits and customer requests.
  • Collaborate on new product development to assess compliance risks and sustainability impact.
  • Perform risk assessments for new product styles, evaluating testing requirements, supplier suitability, and feasibility.
  • Coordinate product documentation and manage final compliance sign-off before production.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in product compliance, regulatory affairs, or sustainability.
  • Strong knowledge of UK/EU regulations (e.g. REACH, GSPR) and ability to interpret technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly to varied audiences.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation management skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with compliance tracking systems or databases.

Desirable:

  • Exposure to ISO 14001 or other environmental management systems.
  • Experience with consumer goods, food-contact items, or electronic product compliance is a plus.
