Hours: 8am - 4pm

Salary: £23k-£28k

The role of a Graduate Product Designer:

Reporting to the Lead Product Designer, you will be a developing member of the internal design team working closely with both external customers and our commercial and production resources to produce innovative packaging design solutions from the concept stage through to product realisation and manufacture. You will be heavily involved in all key aspects of the process such as design ideation, prototyping, graphic design, production implementation, and supporting the design team where possible to satisfy customer & internal demands.

Purpose of a Graduate Product Designer:

Manage and execute a CRM-driven personal workflow consisting of structural product design, graphic design, and prototyping tasks ensuring that the demands of external customers are satisfied in line with internal SLAs. Adapt and become proficient within the design tools given to you, enabling you to react and deliver solutions effectively for a variety of situations within a fast-paced design environment.

Day to day duties of a Graduate Product Designer:

  • Build practical industry-specific product design knowledge via the production of both CAD modelling and high-quality customer prototypes to satisfy projects managed by the design team.
  • Progressively develop the knowledge and skills to produce your own innovative structural packaging designs, all of which will be evident of forward-thinking, market insight, and customer demand.
  • Liaise with our internal team and external customers to interpret specific design requirements throughout a wide variety of packaging design projects. Analyse, interpret, and understand set specifications to produce design solutions that meet these briefs.
  • Coordinate design iterations and product improvements resulting from customers' assessment of physical prototypes and compile production-ready manufacturing drawings and tooling specifications. Work alongside purchasing resources to expedite any non-standard materials or accessories specified by the customer.
  • Create and edit commercial graphic design print layouts in accordance with the internal production print capabilities and liaise directly with the customer to expedite formal artwork approvals.
  • Building knowledge of our manufacturing processes in both our extrusion and conversion departments. Build frameworks for how our products will be manufactured and packed via our CRM driven item creation process.

Ideal qualifications and Skills for a Graduate Product Designer:

  • A design-based degree (or equivalent) in product, industrial, graphic, or packaging design.
  • Experience with ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, and Adobe Creative Suite, although full training will be provided.
  • A basic understanding of manufacturing principles and their influence on design for manufacture.
  • Engaging and proactive individual with great attention to detail with a natural flair for innovative thinking and practical design.
