Job Title: Buyer - Metal Roofing & Cladding
Location: Waltham Abbey
Salary: Up to £35k (depending on experience)
Role Overview:
We are looking for a Buyer to oversee the procurement of goods and services for our roofing and cladding projects. This role involves working closely with Project Managers, the design team, and the procurement manager to ensure timely delivery of materials and services. You will be responsible for securing competitive pricing, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring that all purchases are aligned with project deadlines and budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure materials, equipment, and services for roofing and cladding projects.
- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms to ensure best value.
- Track orders, monitor deliveries, and resolve issues with late or non-conforming products.
- Work with suppliers to manage long-lead items and meet site demands.
- Maintain accurate purchase records and report on procurement activities.
- Liaise with site teams, design departments, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless communication.
Daily Duties:
- Manage the procurement and scheduling of materials and equipment.
- Ensure that purchases offer the best value and are delivered on time.
- Monitor price changes and update internal systems.
- Identify new products and develop supply chain relationships.
- Arrange returns for defective products and process purchase ledgers.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Proven experience in procurement, with a track record of ensuring on-time delivery within project budgets.
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize long-lead and real-time demands.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to solve supply issues and ensure compliance from suppliers.
- Experience with construction drawings and take-offs is an advantage.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years' purchasing experience, ideally in roofing, cladding, or a related industry.
- Familiarity with procurement and inventory management.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in spreadsheets, email, and word processing.
Preferred:
Ability to read and interpret project drawings and specifications.
