Trainee Health and Safety Officer

This is a great opportunity for a trainee to learn about safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) at a well-established construction company.

THE ROLE:

You will join a health and safety team conducting various duties including:

  • Assist the SHEQ Department in the preparation, promulgation, reviews, and ongoing maintenance of the companies ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 45001 management system. Including the organisational arrangements for carrying out the policies.
  • Participate in the investigation of incidents, accidents and near misses, audit, conduct and review contractor risk assessments. Help monitor the implementation of safe work procedures, maintain and update all relevant SHEQ Department administrative duties.

You will be fully supported by a senior SHEQ officer, who will provide guidance, mentoring, and training to ensure the role can be fulfilled correctly.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • An interest in health and safety
  • Manual driving license
  • Confident, can do, attitude
  • Flexible approach to the role
  • An investigative mind
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Ability to work alone, reporting back to management when required
  • Be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, with different groups of people
  • Ability to analyse and understand complex information and present it simply and accurately
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Able to interact with people at all levels within, or external, to the company
  • Able to manage own time and prioritise workloads
  • Good IT skills – proficient in the use of Word, Excel, and Outlook
