Trustee Opportunity

Supporting People Living with HIV and Challenging Stigma.

A charity is seeking passionate and committed individuals to join their Board of Trustees and help guide the Charity in its mission to support people living with HIV. For nearly 30 years, they have provided grant funding to organisations that provide support, promote prevention, and raise awareness of HIV. They are looking for trustees who share a commitment to their purpose and can contribute to the charity's strategic direction and sustainability.

About the Charity:
They raise funds through their network of eight charity shops. This enables them to award grants to London-based organisations that support people living with HIV or AIDS. In addition to funding, they strive to raise awareness about HIV and challenge the stigma that still surrounds the condition.

About the Trustee Role:
As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of the Charity. Working as part of the Board and alongside the leadership team, you will help set the strategic direction, ensure financial stability, and provide governance oversight. As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will ensure the Charity's resources are used effectively and that their activities align with their charitable purpose. They would particularly like to hear from those with lived experience relevant to their purpose, as well as HR knowledge or previous governance experience.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Governance and Compliance: Ensure that the Charity complies with charity law, company law, and other relevant legislation. Actively contribute to the Board's role in providing strategic direction.
  • Strategic Oversight: Work with co-trustees to ensure that the Charity meets its strategic objectives and delivers its charitable purpose
  • Board Participation: Actively contribute to quarterly Board meetings and engage with specific skills, knowledge, or experience to ensure sound decision-making.
  • Financial Stability: Safeguard the financial stability of the Charity by overseeing key operational and financial decisions.

Time Commitment:
The Board meets quarterly, and some trustees also serve on sub-committees that meet quarterly. They hold an annual Board awayday. Trustees may occasionally be asked to contribute to specific projects or related discussions. They ask that Trustees can serve a minimum three-year term.
