Manchester City Council are seeking a dynamic and experienced Fire Safety Manager to join our Building Safety Team. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety of our residents and compliance with fire safety legislation. The Fire Safety Manager will play a key role in managing fire safety works, conducting risk assessments, and developing safety procedures across all our properties.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Deliver all fire safety works ensuring high customer satisfaction and compliance with legal standards.
  • Provide assurance on fire safety compliance to the Head of Design & Delivery, Executive Management team, Corporate Board, and Housing Advisory Board.
  • Support and advise on the procurement of contractors, draft work specifications, and participate in the tendering and contractor selection process.
  • Monitor the quality of work by contractors to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and guidance.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments, inspections, and audits across all residential and workplace premises.
  • Develop and implement fire safety emergency plans and procedures.
  • Regularly undertake inspections, surveys, and audits, particularly focusing on in-scope buildings.
  • Assist with the fire risk assessment programme, addressing actions with appropriate evidence.
  • Follow up on incidents, contribute to new developments, and provide support and advice on fire and building safety across the business.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Fire Safety Manager, particularly in a residential or building safety context.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in building and fire safety.
  • Excellent organisational and methodical skills with a logical approach to safety management.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal teams, external agencies, and residents.
  • Self-starter with excellent IT skills for producing reports and statistical data.
  • Current knowledge of relevant legislation with practical application experience preferred.
