An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and experienced Head of Humanities to join a leading independent school in Colchester from January 2025. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching Humanities subjects up to KS5, alongside proven leadership experience in a similar role.

Located on a stunning parkland campus in Colchester, our school offers a unique setting that encourages academic achievement and personal growth. With ample outdoor space for activities like team sports, boating, and walking, the school is committed to enhancing student's learning experience. We are also constructing a new outdoor classroom and developing a program of outdoor experiential learning, focusing on themes of ecology and nature. As Head of Humanities, you will be instrumental in shaping this new initiative while leading a thriving department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Humanities Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching across subjects such as Geography, History, and Religious Studies
  • Teach Humanities subjects up to KS5, engaging and inspiring students through dynamic and innovative lessons
  • Oversee the development and integration of the new outdoor experiential learning program, with a focus on ecology and nature
  • Provide leadership and support to Humanities staff, promoting best practices in teaching and learning
  • Contribute to the wider school community, supporting the ethos and values of the school

Requirements:

  • Experience teaching Humanities subjects up to KS5
  • Proven leadership experience in a similar role
  • A passion for outdoor learning and integrating themes of ecology and nature into the curriculum
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
