Project Manager

Reporting to the Principal Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:-

  • Delivering outstanding project performance for customers and business.
  • Oversee the execution and delivery of assigned projects from start to finish, with a strong focus on quality, cost, and delivery.
  • As part of the Project Team, you will take charge of various project elements, from leading technical and commercial meetings with customers to procuring components and shipping products.
  • You will establish strong working relationships across the business, including Business Development, Commercial Team, Research & Development, and the Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the control and reporting of the quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) performance for assigned projects, ranging from small to medium spares orders (~£100k) to key programmes (~£20m) within the defence sector.
  • Acting as the point of contact or comfortably interacting with the customer in the execution of assigned projects, possibly including worldwide travel to lead or facilitate face-to-face meetings.
  • Creating and maintaining key project documents including but not limited to Project Management Plans, Project Schedule, Supplier Management Plans, Support Integration Plan, Project Risk Management Plans, and Project Work Breakdown Structures.
  • Managing and monitoring project budgets in association with the Principal PM, identifying and escalating any shortfalls or opportunities.
  • Identifying, escalating, and managing any matters that could pose a potential risk to PEL to the Principal Project Manager at the earliest opportunity.
  • Encouraging and motivating others around you and ensuring company wide communication of the status/problems of assigned projects.
  • Actively partaking in the development and improvement of the Project Team.

Skills/Experience:

  • A technical background/degree is essential, as the role requires the ability to confidently present technical issues/solutions to customers (not necessarily the creation of the solutions).
  • Knowledge of heavy to medium manufacturing would be advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrable collaborative behaviours.
  • Good technical writing skills.
  • Understanding of the defence sector would be beneficial.
  • High attention to detail.
  • The ability to engage pragmatically with customers, internal stakeholders, and suppliers, and be comfortable with audio and video meetings.

Personal Attributes and Other Requirements:

  • Holds a valid UK driving license.
  • As a defence contractor, we have several security obligations placed upon the Company, which means that all our staff must be able to successfully achieve the relevant security clearances.
  • Able to secure a VISA to work in Australia
