Senior Legal Counsel

The role of Senior Legal Counsel delivers effective, efficient and business-orientated legal services to Sopra Steria in relation to its business activities, to ensure that legal, governance and related issues are properly understood and factored into decision making. You will be given full authority within your role and empowered to deliver upon the day-to-day responsibilities.

The role can be based out of Hemel Hempstead or London offices, with regular team interactions to ensure you feel apart of your peer group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on a generalist portfolio, covering both internal corporate and external customer-facing legal issues, including but not limited to public sector tenders, dispute resolution strategy and litigation, data protection, employment, compliance, regulatory and governance etc, where appropriate, working closely with the Deputy Director - Legal and Commercial.
  • Manage external counsel to ensure those relationships are maintained whereby Sopra Steriaobtains best value for money and excellent service levels, whilst proactively exploring innovation further increase efficiencies and quality of advice.
  • Set Sopra Steria positions on any legislative changes and high-risk areas, compliance and regulatory issues.
  • Proactively interface with the businesses stakeholders and understand their legal and risk issues
  • Proactively engage and collaborate with the business to introduce legal and business solutions
  • Anticipate legal changes and horizon scan for risks and opportunities and relay these back to the business in a timely manner.

What you'll bring:

  • Experienced commercial lawyer (in-house or in private practice) with experience of public sector contracts and aptitude for leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and advise on legal matters in the areas of business undertaken by the company.
  • Broad technical experience of a wide range of commercial advice at high level to include general commercial, dispute resolution and litigation (both in the High Court and arbitration).
  • Experience with public sector contracts and PCRs
  • Experience of dealing in the IT contracts/outsourcing,data protection contracts and AI
  • A self-starter who can operate effectively and autonomously with the ability to drive and bring about change
  • An individual who is used to engaging with senior stakeholders to understand the business needs and set the legal/risk balance strategy for the internal clients
